Layer Cake
Special Edition
Sleek, well dressed and polite, our unnamed hero (Daniel Craig) is a consummate professional. Treating cocaine and ecstasy like any other commodity, he has made a fortune for himself by keeping his hands clean and staying under the radar. Having made the decision to retire, his aim is to break free from the world of crime, drugs and violence and live a simple, quiet life with the money he has amassed. But before this can happen, crime boss Jimmy Price (Kenneth Cranham) wants two last favors from him. First, he must track down the missing drug addict daughter of powerful criminal Eddie Temple (Michael Gambon). Second, he must negotiate the sale of a huge shipment of ecstacy with The Duke (Jamie Foreman), a loose cannon petty crook playing well out of his league.
What should be routine transaction is anything but and nothing goes according to plan. Instead, duplicity and hidden alliances become the order of the day, in a struggle for power that reaches from the crack dens of London to the highest ranks of British society. Quickly he learns he is part of a machine much greater than he imagined, and getting out won't be quite as easy as getting in.

Mr.X Marks the Spot - BIKO
This was a surprisingly fun movie, with a well-written if typically Brit. Gangster plot. The
casting was terrific to the smallest part, and this was the role that apparently got Daniel Craig the job of James Bond.He carries it very well- and those blue eyes are amazing. The music fit well with the story. If you like this type of action/ drug/violence film- you'll love this one.Good film, but could be better - thenewguy
L4yer Cake is a story about a big time coke dealer who runs his operation like a business. He's made his money and he is getting ready to retire. First though, his boss wants two favours. Find a missing girl and meet with flashy drug dealer who wants to move a lot of pills.
The drug dealer, "The Duke", wants too much for the pills, the girl is proving to me difficult to find and suddenly people start dying around our main character. Things get complicated and the situation spins out of control with our hoping-to-retire hero trying to sort out the whole mess.
The film has a decent story and there's some good acting here, but there are also some unfortunate weak points. The editing, for example, is all over the place. Sometimes we're in flash-backs, sometimes we're seeing action in MTV music video style and sometimes the directing feels like an indie art film. So the feeling is a bit disjointed. The sound was also problematic. The action is always loud, but the dialogue is difficult to hear and is drowned out by everything else.
Last, and perhaps least, while the story becomes more complicated, I didn't find it became more interesting. So we end up with a lot of characters and back-stories, but they aren't particularly intriguing and it distracts a bit from the action flow of the movie.
Solid performances, but generally let down in the editing/directing of the film.daniel craig...yum - huma
daniel craig is the ultimate gangster, hero, villain at the heart of this good old fashioned caper. a complex, layered plot backed by solid writing and brilliant, gritty performances this is well worth a whirl. sienna miller's part is miniscule, so don't worry about her being a distraction from the quality of the film!
