I was prepared to dump this after a few minutes thinking it was just another film in the trashy, low-budget schlock genre that is foisted on us but as the plot and the characters developed it became an engrossing, powerful, scary film in which a modern day Iago manipulates people around him to their destruction while seeming to be aloof of the action. It's also a tender love story, one of those against-all-odds types that really works due to excellent acting and real situations. The human insights that are portrayed are real and while the gay element is certainly present it is by no means the most important part of the story but a vehicle on which the high drama of this 'sleeper' film builds to its devastating ending.Powerfull and moving - RAGS
The performance of the main characters by Troy and Lee is powerful and true to reality. I think there are 2 themes to the movie: Love between two persons (regardless os sexual orientation) and the true face of the U.S. Military vis-a-vis homosexuality and their "don't ask, don't tell" polity.
The Bonus Material especially the interviews with Barry Winchell's mother and Calpernia Addams are very moving and certaily worth watching.amazing!!! - 2commit
There are mixed blessings in this movie’s cast: Troy Garity’s performance as Barry Winchell lacks continuity--sometimes he’s a complete Forrest Gump, sometimes completely average; Shawn Hatosy as Winchell’s shite-disturbing room-mate will have you rooting out loud for a comeuppance; and Lee Pace as the love interest will break your heart with a gut-wrenching performance of awe-inspiring sincerity and focus.
There’s not much more to say about this made-for-TV vehicle by Showtime, other than, outstanding.
