Stargate Atlantis: Rising (Pilot Episode)
When SG-1 discovers what it believes to be the remnants of the Lost City of the Ancients - the originators of the Stargates - Stargate Command launches an investigation. A new team of explorers, headed by civilian Dr. Elizabeth Weir, travels to the distant Pegasus Galaxy, where it discovers an advanced but deserted city on the ocean floor, a group of nomadic humans and a deadly enemy that feeds on humans as an energy source!

A truly great show. The characters have to share screen time with each other, so there are probably more than they should be. I counted like 5 major characters, perhaps too many for them all to be developed properly.
The plot was pretty decent. The sultry/cruel aliens were pretty neat and made the episode what it was. There should have been more of them.
A fine show with neat plots and skilled actors. A pleasure to watch the cast go through neat adventures each week.
Still a decent show with a fast moving plot. Highly recommended.A solid start - LK--
to a spinoff series. We enjoyed the pilot episode and, like other reviewers, are looking forward to watching Season 1 of stargate Atlantis.
Daniel Jackson (of course) has helped find out the stargate address for the lost city ('the city made lost') of the Ancients, and in order to gather new technologies (including, hopefully, more ZPM's), the 'best and brightest' gather at Stargate Command and take their first steps through the stargate into a new life (and new series). They figure it may perhaps be a one-way trip, and it turns out to be... at least for now. Their very presence in Atlantis causes the power and structural integrity of the city to begin to fail (after countless millenia of being abandoned), and several team members with a special gene (the one Jack O'Neill also has) have the ability to operate systems by thought alone. This comes in especially handy when the decision is made to use the stargate to scout out another planet in the Pegasus galaxy so they can escape imminent destruction in Atlantis. The scouting party thinks it's found a safe haven, but then an enemy that makes the Goa'ould seem tame makes itself known and the people from Earth begin to get some idea of what they've really gotten themselves into. How can they acquire technology to help Earth/the Taurii, when they'll have to fight for their own lives and survival?
We enjoyed the characters, especially the Scottish doctor, and it was nice to see O'Neill and Jackson make an appearance as well.
Can't wait to see what Season 1 will bring. Will the Atlantis team survive? Will they find a way to avoid or even defeat an enemy (the Raiths) who the Ancients themselves could not defeat? Will they find new technology, make allies and ever make it back to Earth?Brilliant! - josh2
I love this pilot episode. Stargate SG-1 is still awsome but Atlantis is right up there in my mind. They creators of this show should be pround of themselves since they've kept everything that made SG-1 so successful and builted on it. I love how the characters Jack O'Neil, and Daniel Jackson are included in this pilot. The new storyline is great and I can't wait to buy the whole season 1 when it comes out on DVD.
