Fanastic pseudo-documentary about Man and Nature - Scopitone
Some people don't like Herzog's documentaries because he blurs the line between truth and reality in his documentaries. He crafts them more like little narratives, movies, than being solely 'objective'. (I would argue that there is no such thing as an objective documentary, but anyways...)
For me, this is part of the appeal. Who really knows the man's story about the bears? We can only try and piece it together from what he left behind.
A really moving, difficult movie to watch at times (the bears are starving from the damage to their ecosystem) about man's destruction to nature and also how some people want to leave civilization behind and rejoin nature...an unbalanced mind - TBGF
grizzly man is a disturbing look at a bear enthauist that is well worth seeing. the disturbing part is on several levels. the most obvious one is that he ended up being mauled by a bear so even the most innocous extracts from the video diaries he recorded have a dark feeling to them. another part is that despite his love for the bears and the other animals living in the wild he views them like they were domesticated animals. this attitude is likely what got him killed.
he would also sometimes ventured into the bizarre, such as manic ranting against the government, hunters, and even at the animals he protected. he makes many dramatic statements, such as how he would die for the bears. in one scene he is shown marveling at the still warm feces of a bear he discovered and touching it.Fascinating - LB21
This documentary was unlike anything I've ever seen before. The footage of the bears was unbelievable and there were many up close moments that almost made your heart stop. The scenary was beautiful. This haunting story of one man's interaction with the bears leaves you pondering right vs. wrong in man vs. nature.
