When the beautiful doctor refuses to abandon the refugees in her care, Lt. Waters finds himself having to choose between following orders and the dictates of his own conscience. IN MY OPINION THIS MAY HAVE BEEN BRUCE WILLIS'S BEST PERFORMANCE SINCE DIE HARD. WILLIS PLAYS A LT. IN THE SEALS TEAMS AND IS SENT IN TO HOSTILE TERRITORY TO RESCUE A AMERICAN DOCTOR WHO RUNS A MISSIONARY AND ARE ORDERED NOT TO GET INVOLVED INTO THE LOCAL CONFLICT. WHEN THEY HAD THE DOC RESCUED SHE THROWS A WRENCH INTO THE ESCAPE WHICH THEN FORCES WILLIS TO DECIDE BETWEEN FOLLOWING ORDERS OR HIS HEART. GREAT MODERN WAR MOVIE AND AS I SAID I THINK WILLIS'S BEST PERFORMANCE IN A LONG TIME.rent Hotel Rwanda Instead, this one is one cliche after another. - FrankFriedBeans
This movie is ok if you haven't seen other movies that deal with this topic or even in this style.
Otherwise the movie feels a combination of classic cliche elements strung together with nothing new whatesoever.
I generally like Bruce Willis, but I felt that he didn't add anything whatsoever to this movie. The "heroism" borders on propaganda, and felt heavy handed.Great Portrayal Of The Horrors Of War - DVDfan
Bruce Wills plays Lieutenant A.K. Waters, whose sole mission is to enter into the heart of Africa in order to rescue a Dr. Lena Fiore Kendricks (played by Monica Bellucci), a preist and two nuns for a missionary facility which is soon to be destroyed by the rebel military.
Unfortunately for the Lietenant, the good doctor will not leave without all of the refugees in her camp, so the Letenant now has to bring a group of about seventy people though war torn africa into safety.
The Lietenant main goal was to rescure the Dr, preiest and nuns, but he finds himself torn between his orders and helping the rest of the refugees reach safety. He decides to disobey his orders and help everyone reach safety.
Along the way the find an african town being destroyed by some of the rebel military forces and witness some of the most horiffic things these rebels have done to innocent men, women and children. Enraged the Lietenant and his squad decide to help these villagers and take out the rebels.
All around great acting in this film. It does a spot on job on showing how ugly war can be and the sickening evil things human beings can do to one another, and it can get quite emotional at times. A definete must rent, eye opening film!
