Kyle Williams (Matthew Le Nevez) thought accepting the job as Sheriff in the sleepy town of Bywater would be a welcome change of pace. But the peaceful town is not what it seems.

Not Horrible...but Definitely not Great!! - xsnrg

Having never read the comic book, I cannot say whether it was true to form, but I can say that it wasn't too bad. You can not expect much when you rent a movie called "Man-Thing"...you should know exactly what you are getting into and it lived up to its expectations (at least my expectations). If you like cheesy b-horrors then give this one a go.

Not bad for a B Horror Flick - Chucky

Obviously; drastic changes were made to the story, the plot and the Man Thing itself to avoid paying royalties. That said the production co put their resources into making not a half bad Horror Movie. If you were looking fr the film debut of the Marvel Comics dubious hero--forget it. This creature looks a lot different, kills a lot different and is seemingly comprised of wood, where the Marve group's creature was comprised mostly of swamp scum. The story is right out of the 1960's tree hugger manual and takes place in Louisiana, the gore is good and theres a lot of it, the creature only makes his appearance later on in the film, its chock full of Hillbillies, crooked oil men and gators. There are far worse movies in this gene out there and I didn't regret watching it.

I was disapointed in the way the film makers translated the story of Man-Thing into a motion picture. The integrity of the source material was completly lost, turning a story of a mindless creature driven by the emotions of others into one of a driven and indescriminate killer beast from the swamp.
As a comic book adaptation the movie falls far short of expectations, however as a straight monster movie the film is enjoyable and entertaining. They have action, suspence and blood,gore and even a little t&a . The special effects are decent the acting is fair and the mood is consistent .
If they had of named the movie "killer Swamp Monster" I would have given it another star but they didn't and I can't get past that. After all how would you like to have watched Titanic and had it take place on a train,just wouldn't be right, and niether was calling this movie Man-Thing.
