Lords of Dogtown (Unrated Extended Version)
Unrated Extended Cut
They came from nothing to change everything.
Based on the True Story of the Legendary Z-Boys.
In Venice, California in the mid '70s, the sport of surfing brought together a group of teenagers from a rough neighborhood. Riding the waves at the Pacific Ocean Park pier, a graveyard of a former amusement park, the boys from "Dogtown" joined the Zephyr skate team (or Z-Boys).
Known for their aggressive style, awe-inspiring moves and hard street attitude, the Z-Boys spent mornings surfing and afternoons skateboarding. Taking the death-defying moves of surfing and applying them to skateboarding, the Z-Boys became overnight sensations -- local legends -- and revolutionized the art of skateboarding, transforming youth culture forever.

I have never really been into skateboarding, but I still really enjoyed this movie. I found it entertaining and it was interesting to see where and how skateboarding came to be. I also enjoyed watching the different paths that the boys went down. From Stacey who "sold-out" and the other boys who kept it real.good 70s California vibe - if you like Dazed & Confused etc... - Scopitone
I'm not even into skateboarding but I really enjoyed this movie. Its very realistic, just following these young kids around as they go from casual skateboarding to the beginning of it as a sport. The sunny Califorina 70s vibe is great - if you like movies such as Dazed and Confused you will enjoy this more realistic viewpoint. Also look for a great job done by the late Heath Ledger. The other young actors do a good job of bringing a youthful joyousness to the movie.Better than I expected - DeRat
This is zip worthy, probably more so if you are into skating or perhaps surfing... I never really knew the origins of the skating phenom, and so this show was interesting but not really an area of interest in my life so I found it a little slow... it was interesting to see what skateboarding used to be compared to what we see today on MTV or X-game demo's, pretty tame in the sense of air time and tricks, but the show I think was faithful to what it was at that time...
Heath Ledgers role although not small wasn't really the main character in my mind, but he did a good job, the kids were all quite good I thought...
Not a lot to say about this show - it didn't "wow" me, but it didn't suck... it just was what it was... nothing great but not bad. If you are a skateboarder or fan and want to see how it all began you may love this show, but don't expect it to wow you with tricks or vert ramps etc... mostly they skate and skid on flat ground until they discover swimming pools during a drought, and then arcs over pool lights is the big trick.
