Escape from the Newsroom
George Findlay and his news team return in Escape from the Newsroom. Written, created and directed by Ken Finkleman, the feature comedy is the sequel to his groundbreaking series, The Newsroom.
When it comes to satire, no show in TV history delivered more dark wit than Finkleman's series The Newsroom. Carrying on the tradition five years later, Escape from the Newsroom targets popular culture, the Canadian film industry, TV journalism, office politics and artistic freedom.
The film reunites members of the original cast and introduces new characters into the already volatile mix. Ken Finkleman once again portrays George, the neurotic hypochondriac and politically incorrect news director. And Peter Keleghan reprises the role of anchor Jim Walcott, who has emerged from his coma to make a triumphant return to the anchor desk, despite the bullet still lodged in his brain.

best to watch series 1 and 2 first - kevinski
I think that the newsroom is one of the most clever series made, certainly on Canadian television anyway. I would suggest, however, that anyone contemplating renting this movie watch the two series first, and in order. There are frequent references to older material, and it is funnier if you "get it." Actually, this movie is to some extent a self-parody of the series, with a very clever ending. As with all of the newsroom, the material is "raw" in the sense of feeling very much like unpolished real life. By the way, a series three has been broadcast, but is not yet out on DVD I believe...Her is hoping zip will get it when it does.First Introduction - TaBobo
I never saw the TV series this feature stems from, but am now very curious to go and find it.
I can't speak for if this keeps the same vein and the show, but what a very funny picture, filled with self deprecating and tongue firmly in cheek humour. Zany and interesting characters make the script alive with flavor and the overall production feels very care for. I definatly recommend Escape From the Newsroom.
