Conagher
Conagher is both a hard-riding actioner and a character-driven look at Western life. Katharine Ross plays Evie Teale, widowed after coming West and forced to prove her mettle in many ways. Sam Elliott plays Conagher, a cowhand who, when not tracking rustlers, drifts in and out of Evie's life. Something about that frontier woman keeps drawing him back. But can Evie ever keep him from drifting out again?

Fairly Routine Western With A Great Cast - bwod
Expecting very little from this t.v. movie, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the production. A good screen adaptation from a Louis L'Amour novel, excellent cast, reasonably interesting story, and beautiful location shooting in Colorado. Worth a look. I give it one firm thumb up.A Wandering Trot through the Tumbleweed - Stitch
There are signature westerns and standard oaters and then this one that meanders along with a variety of characters, none of whom really grab your attention. A possible exception is Barry Corbin in the very minor part as stage driver. Sam Elliott was our reason for selecting this film based on his performance in The Quick and the Dead but here he just doesn’t ring true as the wandering good hearted cowboy. Just a little too serious and profound…but passable.
Do pay special attention to Billy Jean Bush’s (Jacob Teale) final scene. Realistic and gut wrenching, a little gem.
Katherine Ross is appropriate as the pioneer widow Teale ..well worn. Unfortunately she doesn’t bring anything unique or particularly sympathetic to the party. We did enjoy Anndi McAfee in one small scene when mourning her dad…extremely well done. And Cody Braun was commendable as her brother. But for the rest of the cast and the somewhat unfocused screen play, adequate is about it.
The plot resolution is abrupt and its timing a bit of a surprise.
Worth a look on a rainy day; you'll doze off content. Just don't expect Lonesome Dove.
