Hustle
Everybody 'hustles' everybody - especially in Los Angeles where suicides, strip joints, shootouts, porno movies, the mob and murder combine into a collage. Caught in this web of modern reality is an old fashioned detective (Burt Reynolds). A moralist who still sees the difference between right and wrong, he can hardly reconcile himself to the ugliness of his job. By day he investigates a young girl's suicide; at night he relaxes with Catherine Deneuve, a high-priced Paris call girl.

Old School Tragedy - OlBaldy
I read a report on a recent study that said women find men sexier when they don't smile. Given that, Burt Reynolds is probably considered sexy in this movie, because he doesn't smile very much.
The movie is sad mostly, and I saw it at a time in my life that was appropriate. The script is well written and it makes you wonder if other things are playing in the background that we have yet to discover - so we participate to some extent with the investigation, wondering what we will find.
Interesting tragic drama.Great Film-Noir - kap0n3
"Hustle" is a great film-noir. The story is politically incorrect and all the characters are sordid. Burt Reynolds is great in the role of a tormented, but correct and efficient cop, capable of simulate evidences, living with the dilemma that his girl-friend is a whore, and expecting one day to move to Rome with her. Catherine Deneuve is in the splendor of her beauty in the role of a prostitute. Paul Winfield plays a correct detective, but brutal and racist. Eddie Albert is in the role of a powerful man, capable of killing to reach his objectives. Gloria's mother is an unfaithful wife and Marty is a paranoid and obsessed man. The appearance of the precinct is very real and authentic. Robert "Freddy Kruger" Englund, in the beginning of his career, has a short but important participation in the end of the story as the holdup man in a store.
