The Devil's Arithmetic
She saw the truth with her own eyes.
Sixteen year old Hanna Stern was a typical American teenager who ignored her family's heritage until a mystical Passover seder takes her back in time to German-occupied Poland on an emotional journey of life, death and survival. Transported to a dank, cold, concentration camp, she experiences the horrors of the holocaust and for the first time understands the grim reality of her people's fate. Fighting for survival, she keeps everyone's spirits up by entertaining them with stories of the future, but she soon must face a terrible sacrifice. Starring Kirsten Dunst (Spiderman), Mimi Rogers (Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery) and Brittany Murphy (Don't Say a Word) with a powerful introduction by Academy Award® Winner Dustin Hoffman, this emotional journey based on the popular book is a compelling way to show young and old alike why we must "never forget."

The Devil’s Arithmetic is a movie for young people, especially young people who either don’t know much about the Holocaust or don’t understand why it’s still worth thinking about. Even if it is a bit too obviously engineered to “teach a lesson,” the “modern girl goes time traveling” approach is one that can draw kids and teens into the story better than a straight period film. Though the film does make it clear that Jews in Nazi Germany were badly mistreated and murdered, it does so without actually showing a lot of blood and death that would give a kid nightmares, so if you’re looking for a way to educate a young person about the Holocaust without traumatizing them, Zip The Devil’s Arithmetic rather than Schindler’s List.Reality - sue_z_q

She has no idea what her life in the city is compared to the terrible life many Jews had to endure, and how they survived, if they did survive.. A important lesson of not to take for granted what you have...
