A Good Woman
A scandalous yet comic story set in New York and the Italian Riviera during the 1930s. Mrs. Erlynne (Hunt) is an audacious and well-known woman of a certain age with a reputation for entertaining wealthy, married men. Leaving her problems and unpaid bills in New York, she sets sail for Italy to pursue Meg (Johansson) and Robert Windermere (Umbers), one of the most high profile couples in 1930s society. Once in Europe, she becomes embroiled in a family scandal which becomes an intriguing story of seduction, betrayal and, ultimately, surprising loyalty.

A delightful period piece placed Amalfi coast of Italy, this film in surrounded by the warm summer of breezes and all it brings with it: the italian flare for romance, gossip, fashion, and elitist parties and galas. Helen Hunt gives a star performance and Scarlett is no one to bat an eyelash at, as the two are at odds in this film, and yet a striking familiarity in both feminine beauty and dramatic poise. Filled with poetic script, the writing is awe-inspiring, and I found myself taken away by the witty charm of conversation amongst the characters. Holding true to the happy ending we all adore, but no before we are expose to an unexpected twist in the story line, that I did not see coming, and makes a delightful play in the storyline and character development. This film is a must see, and highly recommended!Mostly good - Katisha
Not a bad adaptation. I found the flat nasal tones of both Hunt and Johanssen detracted materially from their characterizations. Americans like to believe they don't have class distinctions, but these women did not speak like society women, especially from the 1930s. If you think of Emily Gilmore, of The Gilmore Girls, you'll see what I mean about a society accent. Otherwise, this was pretty good. I particularly liked the expansion of Tuppy's character (from the less-prominent character in the play), and Wilkinson's portrayal was spot on.Delightful movie - Seriously_underrated
The delightful dialog alone make this movie worth the watch, but the characters, costumes, and interesting plot twist add even more to the mix. Throughout the movie are shots of the stunning scenery , encouraging all to visit Amalfi, Italy-in the very near future. Time well spent!
