Year Of The Dragon
Corruption. Extortion. Sometimes, even, assassination. For the tradition-bound mob bosses of Manhattan's Chinatown, there are age-old ways of running things. And now there's a police captain Stanley White's way.
Mickey Rourke portrays White, a war veteran who has a Vietnam-sized chip on his shoulder when dealing with an emerging blood feud in Chinatown. John Lone plays the crime lord standing in the line of fire of White's relentless campaign. And Academy Award®-winning director Michael Cimino (The Deer Hunter, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot), working from a screenplay based on the novel by Robert Daley (Prince Of The City) and co-scripted by Oliver Stone, fills the screen with adrenaline rushes of action and excitement.

Being a sucker for all things asian, I rented this when I was a kid, (around the time that VHS hit the market.
Mickey Rourke gives a solid performance as affected Vietnam War Vet turned Police Captain Stanley White who's been given a new turf..Chinatown, NY.
(Trivia here....When Year of the Dragon came out in 1985, although it won awards, it bombed at the box office. When Michael Mann was slated to release 'Red Dragon' in 1986, Dino DeLaurentis, who financially backed both, didn't want the word 'Dragon' in the title so they changed the name to 'Manhunter.')
Joey Tai, (John Lone in an amazing performance) is aiming to take over the Triad, and uses some impressive albeit superbly violent methods to do it.
Stanley White means to stop him with the help of Reporter Tracy Tzu (Arianne). Co-Written by Oliver Stone, you can feel some of Stones' sentiments after Vietnam which would earn him a Best Picture Oscar for 'Platoon' a few years later.
'Year of the Dragon' was an amazing entry for 1985. It's a shame it didn't do better. Over twenty years later, it feels nowhere near as dated as others.
