Oh Heavenly Dog
This heavenly and hilarious detective story stars Chevy Chase and Benji, America's favorite canine star. After being killed in the line of duty, a private investigator (Chase) arrives in Heaven, only to be told he's going back to Earth to solve his own murder and the murder case he was working on when he was killed. He's elated- until he realizes he's being sent back in the body of a small, scruffy dog (Benji)! Filled with laughs and dog stunts galore, this tail wagging comedy also stars Jane Seymour and Omar Sharif.

I remember watching "Benji" on Tv when I was a teen. I rented this for "family night." Big mistake. Swearing, lots of swearing, and graphic violence (stabbing with large butcher knife & blood). Should be rated "14+". Fun to see Omar Sharif as a bad guy, however.Still love it - XTRUClerk
As I write this Oh Heavenly Dog is still on order at Zip.ca, but if it ever comes available you might want to have a look. It's long been one of my favorites. I was a fan of Benji long before I knew who Chevy Chase was, and he's still the star of this one for me (I love watching him dial that phone every time, and his reaction when someone picks up is perfect). As an adult I've also come to appreciate how warm the movie is, with lots of nice photography. Chevy is really good with the voiceover, emoting and explaining as the movie progresses. Jane Seymour looks so young and lovely in this one. The soundtrack, featuring great music by Wings and Elton John is wonderful as well. Contrary to what it may seem, this is not a movie for very young children, with death and reincarnation taking center stage (today's kids probably wouldn't want to watch it anyway) this is a comedic love story for adults. Cheers.
