Dark Water
The Darker Cut
Dark water conceals darker secrets.
Dahlia Williams (Jennifer Connelly) is starting a new life; newly separated with a new job and a new apartment, she's determined to put her relationship with her estranged husband behind her and devote herself to raising her daughter, Ceci. But when the strained separation disintegrates into a bitter custody battle, her situation takes a turn for the worse. Her new apartment -- dilapidated, cramped, and worn -- seems to take on a life of its own. Mysterious noises, persistent leaks of dark water, and strange happenings cause her imagination to run wild, leaving her to wonder who is behind the endless mind games. As Dahlia frantically searches for the links between the riddles, the dark water seems to close around her. But one thing trumps all others in Dahlia's world: no matter what it is that's out there, nothing is going to harm her little girl.

While the tone and atmosphere of the movie are pleasingly eerie, the plot comes off as amateurish and the movie sets you up for disapointment.
DARK WATER is a bit formulaic, but it's a great, intense, complex horror/thriller cross (something we clearly see a lot of nowadays) with a mutual connection to THE RING as well as just enough scares to leave you satisfied by the end of the picture.
After a nasty divorce and custody battle of her daughter, they move to an old apartment which is haunted. DUN DUN, DUN DUN, DUN DUN.... the end.Confusing with no real payoff - Proggy
This movie dresses itself up as a thriller/horror but never truly goes anywhere. A head-scratcher of a story that begins interestingly enough but never delivers any real chills or scares.
The performances are good, of course, with such a cast, but when it is over, the viewer is left wondering what on earth happened, and why all those underdeveloped characters were even introduced.
Points are given for the acting and the way the film is shot. But unless you've got nothing else to watch, I'd pass on this one. There are far better in this genre. Not Bad - WildAlbedo
I am very surprised at the low reviews I am seeing on this movie. I actually thought it was pretty good. From the beginning the story kinda hauled me in, interested me and kept my interest right until the end. The end did surprise me, but it was then I realized it was somehow related to 'The Ring' and was a pretty good film. It was not really a horror, but a scary drama...either way a good movie about a divorced mother and daughter living in an apartment building full of scary endeavours...
