On the Corner
Angel and Randy Henry are a sister and brother, caught on the mean streets of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. While Angel finds the strength to escape her seemingly hopeless situation, Randy slips deeper into a world consumed by abandonment and fuelled by drugs.

This movie was very realistic and the actors gave amazing performances, including the hyper and intense J.R. Bourne from Stargate SG-1.
Having grown up in B.C. --small villages adjoining reserves, Prince Rupert, Terrace, Vancouver -- I saw many people I'd come across over the years in this movie.
I saw the the promise and hope... and then the denial of drug or alcohol addiction, then the life draining out of them one day at a time. No matter what the skin colour of the characters in this movie, they all have had to make choices (the best they could, given really horrible choices) that have led them to live in one old hotel in Vancouver. Each character tries to simply survive from one day to the next.
When Randy, 16, comes to Vancouver from Prince Rupert to find his older sister and father, nothing could prepare him for what he finds. He is slowly drawn into a cycle of addiction, substance abuse, prostitution and fear. At the end, one person is so overcome with the events of the movie that all they can do is stand on the street corner and sob. I think the ending was perfect and I think this should be required viewing for all older teens, regardless of skin colour. It takes the so-called 'glamour' out of drugs and the lifestyle. 5 stars!Poor Man's "City of God" - Jonesy
Legend has it that Ron Howard saw this movie and cast "Randy" (Simon Baker) for that part he got in 'The Missing'. True or not, Mr. Baker does an excellent job in this role as a misguided youth angry at the world while constantly wearing in-line skates. That's not so easy...I've tried. Besides the footwear, this movie has many reasons to watch. 1) The strong story...simple, but very effective. 2) It has that werewolf girl in it! 3) It gives you many reasons to be thankful for what you have in this world, and possibly giving some perspective of how some people become 'down and out'. Well done Mr. Geary, well done.
