Having lived his entire life under the watchful eye of his overbearing mother, Albert must fend for himself after an unidentified car suddenly kills her. Free for the first time, Albert quickly responds to the bait dangling in front of him by two con artists, pitting one against the other in a race for his trust and fortune. Using the skills that make him a gifted fisherman, Albert turns the tables on his seemingly doomed fate, revealing nothing is quite what it seems in this Midwestern tale of love and deceit.

Another film on Valium from the USA - avidfilmbuff
What was the point of this film? There was a lot of potential but it fell short of the mark. A certain amount of tension was built which was just enough to keep someone watching to the end but this film seemed far too self-indulgent. Directors take note. Show some character development, make the story line clearer, and don't try to save on screen writers' costs by filling the film with silent scenes that go nowhere. Randy Quaid acted well which caused me to give this three stars. Otherwise, why do we need yet another disjointed film, poorly acted, which seemed like it came from actors and a director who lacked energy?A werid one - rnhaas
I don't quite know what to make of this. The acting is much better than the budget. But the story is, well, odd. Sometimes that a great thing, but here they just never quite strike the right tone, I guess. It certainly feels like it could have been longer and we could have learned more about some of the characters motivations. And though I get the last shot, I didn't really like it.Just OK. - Jeefster
Although well done in the acting and the story department, it nonetheless leaves you at the end with the feeling that you've just seen something very average. Nothing new to excite the senses, just sort of a sweet story that doesn't end too terribly great. It all is quite predictable, even if you're not too bright about figuring out who his father really is. At the end you're not left hanging, but you're not really left with total satisfaction.
I would recommend this if you're big into dramas about human relationships, but if you like a little more action, a little more Hollywood pizzaz, then pass this one up.
