I can't remember if Terrance Howard won anything for this role, but if he didn't...WHY?? He is so fantastic in this, you forget that it's just a movie role. As a mom of 2, I normally wouldn't find myself feeling sympathy for a low-life pimp, but I did. My heart broke for his pregnant girlfriend, and his #1 hooker.(Sorry, I'm bad with character names.) Many times I would be at work singing "You know it's hard out here for a pimp..." Ya, quite interesting at the office. Anyway, Hustle & Flow is definately worth watching, even if you don't like Rap, or...pimps. Just Zip it, and I promise you'll like it.Watch this... - Portal
This film is honest, raw, dedicated and gritty. The urban language, the sense of vibe discovery, the guilt and pain are all portrayed in a truly realistic manner. One of the best films I have seen that reveal the harsh immediacy and desperation of struggling ghetto artists. The casting is perfect, the pace of the film is spot on...and for anyone that has ventured in the territory of music...it is a must see.It all started with a Mid-Life Crisis - Zoyamauz
Terence Howard really shines as the Pimp who suddenly realizes that he wants more out of life - for himself and the people around him. He plays him with incredible depth, rarely seen on screen. In addition, the supporting actors are very well cast.
This production does a great job at showing a realistic picture of the struggle on the other side of the social ladder. It makes you root for the pimp without romanticizing any aspects surrounding his life.
Highly intelligent, original dialogue - recommendable without hesitation.
