Happy Endings
Mamie (Lisa Kudrow) is being blackmailed. A filmmaker named Nick claims to know Mamie's son -- the one she gave up for adoption -- but Nick won't introduce her to him unless he can film the reunion. Enter Javier, Mamie's massage therapist boyfriend, who convinces Nick to film him instead.
Charley has a longtime boyfriend named Gil. Their best friends, Pam and Diane, once tried using Gil as a sperm donor. QUENTIN TARANTINO WITHOUT THE BLOOD - Ricardo
This was a movie with so many different interconnected lines that it was hard to keep track of everything going on. Still, somehow they managed to keep it together and deliver in the end. It starts with a very interesting event and somehow it doesn't let up until it's over. I DO wonder what happened to Jude though...Amazing film! - Angelina1
This movie was spectacular. Some may say it was rather formulaic, along the lines of Magnolia or Crash, as it kind of plays out like a soap opera showing the lives of a variety of characters (most of whom are not entirely likeable in the beginning) and then entertwines all of their lives with a kind of a bitersweet resolution.
Well, formulaic it may be, but it was definately well executed.
Also, I normally despise Lisa Kudrow & Laura Dern, I only know David Sutcliffe from television, I don't care all too much for Tom Arnold, and aside from Maggie Gyllenhaal (the only actor of the bunch that I actually typically enjoy the work of) I'm not really familiar with the rest of the cast. Being an independant film, I'm also not familiar with the director. All that being said, I kind of rented this on a whim, not really expecting a whole lot, and I was pleasantly suprised.
The reviews that claim the movie runs a little too long were way off, and I found every moment of this film worthwhile and entertaining. It completely played all of my emotions, and actually succeeded in closing things off quite well. Where most decent movies are good up until the end and I always wish they'd done something different with the ending, this one left me pretty satisfied.Caught, and held, my attention - somme1916
This movie, while playing a little over 2hrs in time, surprisingly felt like less. unlike many non-action movies that only tell a story this one seemed to flow along, for the most part, at high tempo. This flow was enabled by the telling of many, and for the most part unrelated story lines.
Again unlike a number of flicks this movie did not stray from one story long enough for the veiwer to be lost when they came back to it. Also a nice compliment was the constant story lines written on the side of the screen.
I was a little nervous when I began to watch, but before I realized it, it was over.
