Ultraviolet
Unrated Extended Cut
The blood war is on.
In the late 21st Century, a vampire-like disease has ravaged the world, creating a population of humans with boosted intelligence, speed and stamina. The "Hemophages" are targeted for destruction by the uninfected humans, leading to a worldwide civil war. Caught in the middle of this battle is Violet (Milla Jovovich), an infected woman who finds herself protecting a nine-year old boy (Cameron Bright) marked for death by the government who believe him to be a threat to the healthy population.

Not My Cup Of Tea - newdaysof
I like a good science-fiction movie but this one is over-the-top and far-away too high-tech for my liking.
Everything, and I mean everything in this movie is a bizarre high-tech gadget and it was just way too overwhelming for me to take in. Everything and everyone seems to be in conflict or under intense pressure and locked into some biological, mechanical, electronic, robotic device, weapon, vehicle or monstrosity. After the first ten minutes I just didn't give a damn. The whole movie is a kind of nightmare vision of the future, that frankly, I hope I never see and I hope never occurs on Earth or anywhere else. Because it is simply too depressing and mind-numbing. We need to get closer to Nature, back to the Earth and caring for the planet, not some grandiose nightmare techno-vision.Good Popcorn in a Pretty Package - Lekatariba
pre-flight biases:
- I likes the Milla :-)
- I like the genre, Sci-Fi/Fantasy
pre-flight expectations:
- visually appealing
- lots of action
- popcorn entertainment
- hope for emotional engagement of characters
in-flight experience:
- loved the visual style
- the story was very original
- a few CGI scenes could have been more photo-realistic but this could have been intentional
- suspension of disbelief reached early on
- the main characters were believable, although a few bits of dialog were wooden if not cliched
- it had heart; I was emotional engaged
post-flight summary:
avoid/rent/buy/theatre: rent / theatre
if buying, max price I'd pay: $15
pre-flight expectations met: 5/5
post-flight review:
Looking back, the movie fulfilled its promise of the sci-fi/fantasy genre: it gave me a perspective on the human condition, posing some interesting questions. I never felt jilted or let-down. The movie carried out its themes to conclusion and I felt satisfied.
I'm not sure why some many folks didn't like it. Sure there were scenes that could have used more CGI effort and some of the dialog was wooden and cliche-ridden, but this story had heart. It engaged me emotionally and didn't let me down at the end.
Oscar worthy? Not by a long-shot. But if you go in expecting entertainment in a pretty package that's what you'll get.Great ideas, Poor Execution - Jim_Bobob
I had to give this movie a poor rating. It has some neat ideas involving the tech used to make guns apear from nowhere and grav device ect. But I found myself having to put a great deal of effort into paying attention to this movie. The action in this movie laughable, it is pretty much slap or shoot pose, hit and pose watch guy fall to the ground and pose.
The CGI effects, although where probly made to look like they were out of a comic book, where pretty bad. I have seen better blue screening out of the 5:00 news 10 years ago.
Another thing I found anoying is if glass armor that the storm trooper knock offs wore....
I really could not see the point in wearing somthing that could shatter and take out your eye if you tripped. atleast their namesakes plastic plate might stop a nife or crazy wooky with a fork.
