Mani Ratnam always has delivered the goods and Madhavan does an excellent job of portraying a journalist who travels down to war torn Sri lanka with his adopted daugher. The storyline, direction and acting are excellent. The songs are pretty good too and it was good to watch a movie from the South that wasn't purely razzle, dazzle and no substance.Brutal yet poignant. - Sr2007
One of the best movies dealing with the human cost of the struggle in Sri Lanka. A little girl's quest to find her birth mother takes the audience on a journey into the hell that is Tamil Sri Lanka today. Suicide bombings and retaliatory air strikes on civilian targets , brutal murders by the Sri Lankan army and other mayhem and chaos on screen don't detract from the personalities and their inner struggles as they come to terms with what their life has become. A definite must-see.
