Red Eye
Fear Takes Flight
Lisa Reisert (Rachel McAdams) hates to fly, but the terror that awaits her on the night flight to Miami has nothing to do with a fear of flying.
Moments after takeoff, Lisa's seatmate, Jackson (Cillian Murphy), menacingly reveals the real reason he's on board: He is an operative in a plot to kill a rich and powerful businessman... and Lisa is the key to its success. If she refuses to cooperate, her own father will be killed by an assassin awaiting a call from Jackson. Trapped within the confines of a jet at 30,000 feet, Lisa has nowhere to run and no way to summon help without endangering her father, her fellow passengers and her own life. As the miles tick by, Lisa knows she is running out of time as she desperately looks for a way to thwart her ruthless captor and stop a terrible murder.

Wes Craven’s foray into straight-up thriller is a mixed bag at best. The impressive cinematography takes us from the close confines of an airplane lavatory to the sweeping vistas of a penthouse suite, the resulting interplay of claustrophobic spaces and agoraphobic vulnerability takes you off guard at times and ratchets up the tension nicely. Unfortunately, even though they are talented performers on their own, Rachel McAdams and Cillian Murphy produce very little screen chemistry here as they plod through a generic script accompanied by a cast of stock characters from every Airport movie ever made. Of course the tables will be turned more than once, the usual twists will occur and we’ll be expected to accept some enormous gaps in logic. But even though Red Eye’s gaps start out small enough they quickly become bottomless chasms that threaten to swallow you up, popcorn and all. Perhaps Craven should have stuck to what he does best; simply seat Freddy Krueger in first class, have everyone fall asleep, and let the slashing begin...Good Casting Call - Zoyamauz
"Red Eye" surprised me. I did not expect to be drawn to the TV in the way that I was. The acting is fresh and the plot, although simple (don't expect any twists and turns), evolves gradually, keeping the suspense.
When I read that Wes Craven was behind this, I thought it would probably be a bloody affair, similar to the "Scream" series movies. I was impressed that it was not so. There is some violence but it is kept to a believable level.
Furthermore, I enjoyed seeing a strong smart heroine I could relate to. Too often the young girl victims are portrayed as dumb sorority bimbos who seem incapable of quick thought and only survive through sheer luck. Part of the entertainment is due the fact that it all came unexpectedly to the cool villain who seems to have strongly underestimated the strength of a previously wronged victim. The casting is excellent - Rachel McAdams & Cilian Murphy really make this work.
Thumbs Up!Surprisingly good thriller - Filmgal
You have to approach movies like Red Eye cautiously: accept that they can't all be full of unexpected twists like The Sixth Sense or that they might never become a classic thriller. Once you accept that, you'll be able to enjoy Red Eye.
Yes, some of it is predictable and you can probably guess what will happen before you even press play, but half of the fun of a movie like Red Eye is seeing how it all plays out. Cillian Murphy is great in what you might call the scariest character type of all- the "Cute, nice and likes to help Old Ladies Guy who is really a diabolical threat." He is at once calm and meanacing. Rachel McAdams does her best to be scared and act as the strong female character common to the horror genre.
It's an entertaining film and deserves a place on your ziplist.
