Southie
The Toughest Neighborhood In America
When Danny Quinn (Donnie Wahlberg) left his tough Irish Catholic, working class neighborhood in South Boston, going back was the last thing on his mind. But when Danny returned home, he found his brothers out of work, his sister (Rose McGowan) out of control and his mother running out of time. While he may have changed, everything else is still the same - torn between loyalty and the law, between two mob families at war - Danny must decide whether to walk away from his roots or make a stand.

"Southie has some glimmers of hope, but mostly it leaves you scratching your head lost in translation."
Boston's indie is Full of established actors (IE: Amanda Peet, Rose Mcgowen) and a reputable film maker. Regardless it still doesn't put into account how choppy and confusing the storyline is one minute i'm fully engrossed in the story. The next i'm lost, unsure what the heck is going on. My theory is they introduced to many useless characters who weren't apart of the main story. If you want an awesome Boston based film check out The Departed.Poor Cinematography Even for an Indie - xYJx
This film polarizes people, some calling it a hidden gem and some calling utterly forgettable. Rose McGowan shows small flashes of brilliance and the story has its moments. The toughest challenge for me was the cinematography. It reeked of amateur camera operating and could be a turn off.
Also, I rented this movie only because I saw Lawrence Tierney had a role. If you're looking for a Lawrence Tierney crazy bastard routine, this is not it. This would be his last role before he passed away. Its almost sad, as Tierney looks lost and confused.
If you're a forgiving, art house fan, you're patience may get you through this one. For your mainstream flick going crowd, it's a tough watch.
