This movie seems rushed with jumpy editing and an overall weak premise.
The opening 15 minutes tell the entire story with the rest of the movie being pretty pointless fluff. Without going in to spoilers there's really no new information until the final two scenes, in which the script delivers its social commentary.
Everything from the title to the (failed attempt at) intrigue left me with the feeling that the screenplay was an attempt to pass this movie off as an adaptation of a John Grisham novel. The Deal - TwoBoggySwampers
This wasn't so bad considering it was a movie I'd never heard of until I came across it in Rogers Direct. The story was an OK one and had a pretty good lineup of Hollywood stars involved in it. On the other hand, it was a wee bit dry and drawn out in several scenes, making it somewhat boring and ho-hum. Ultimately, I would say that it's one of those take it or leave it kind of films - not to die for, but it won't kill you to watch it, either.Better than Expected - Filmgal
I enjoyed The Deal much more than I had expected to like a straight to video type of film.
The plot is decent, revolving around a cover-up of oil money and the subsequent deal made surrounding it to endorse it to stockholders. The acting isn't terrific but it too is good enough. The bad guys are pretty cheesy however, complete with bad Russian accents. There are some thrilling moments and elements of suspense.
It's a good watch for you if you like political thrillers or law/courtroom/corruption type of dramas.
