The Aristocrats
With "The Aristocrats", Paul Provenza and Penn Jillette have made the funniest movie ever, because it has more funny people than have ever been in one movie before. A labor of love three years in the making, encompassing more than 100 comedians and culled from over 100 hours of footage, Provenza and Jillette shot the documentary holding DV cameras in their own hot little hands and edited it at home on a Mac. As fellow comedians, Provenza and Jillette got their cameras rolling where no real filmmaker could ever go. They let us see how professional comedians talk after their sitcoms have wrapped and the audience has gone home.
The result is a heartfelt, private, unprecedented backstage look at famous comedians playing around. Provenza and Jillette got superstar comedians being funny for other comedians, and that is really no-kidding funny. They also captured a performance portrait unlike any other - the art of comic improvisation.

Not for the faint of heart - Poet
It may be a cliche, but this documentary is certainly not for the faint of heart. Here, we have some of the greatest comedians out there giving their take of The Aristocrats joke. The goal of this particular joke is to take it way across the lines of decency. Everybody involved did just that in this film and I loved everry minute of it.
The DVD also contains some great special features. You really get your money's worth if you like this type of humor! For Lovers of Comedians - Mookie
As you can see from the ratings - this film splits people. You hate it and think it is boring and disgusting, or you love it and laugh out loud and find it very interesting. Why did I love it? I think it is because I loved getting a glimpse into how comedians' minds work. I loved it because they all approached the idea in different ways. I loved it because it was a great documentary about comedy (not a comedy).
I, myself, do not like raunchy humour, so it wasn't that aspect which made me laugh, but the different ways the comedians approached the raunchy humour that amused me.
Who won't like this? If you are easily offended, if you go in thinking the joke is supposed to be funny (the comedians admit the punchline is lame), you think Penn is in it alot (nope, but listen to the commentary for more Penn) or if you go in expecting the movie is JUST about laughs.Watch it Alone! - InnisFILM
You know those movies you say you wouldn't want to watch with your parents? This is one you won't even enjoy with your spouse! If you are *at all* squeamish about pedophiles, feces, or incest, you will find this movie offensive...
That being said, I did have a good time with this film. Despite my squirming, I did laugh out loud a couple of times. It is interesting to see the hidden world comics live in, and to see "family comedians" showing their true colours. You don't know Bob Saget until you hear him tell "The Aristocrats".
