Pride and Prejudice
An adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel about sisters trying to make their way in 19th century England. Elizabeth Bennett (Keira Knightley) is the second of five sisters from a well-off but lower class family. Their mother is anxious to marry them off to wealthy young gentlemen, but when they meet Mr. Darcy (Matthew MacFadyen), an eligible, wealthy young man, his arrogance makes him undesirable, especially to Elizabeth, who is the target of his rudest comments. When her older sister Jane falls in love with Mr. Darcy's best friend Mr. Bingley, Lizzie finds herself having to be in Darcy's presence more than she would like. She befriends Mr. Wickham, who also doesn't view Mr. Darcy in a positive light. However, as the events unfold, Mr. Wickham turns out to be not quite as charming as Lizzie initially believes… and Mr. Darcy not quite as odious.

Another film version of Jane Austen's novel set in nineteenth century England, in which Miss Elizabeth Bennet is not impressed with Mr. Darcy upon their first meeting, but goes on to fall in love with him. After you've enjoyed this, check out the Emma Thompson version of "Sense & Sensibility".Loved it !! - LisaTravis
I absolutely love this version of Pride & Prejudice. The cinematography was beautiful and it captures the feeling of the movie.
I also thought that the casting was perfect. Keira Knightly portraying Lizzie and Matthew Mcfadyn as Mr. Darcy made me believe the story and I could feel the connection between the two characters.
It did go a little fast in the story from one action to the next, but the movie would have been too long had they drawn out each and every event.
Great Movie !!Beautiful Cinematography, Passable Storyline - MoonDust
This film is absolutely beautiful. The cinematography is stunning, and the whole thing is extremely poetic and captures Jane Austen's world in a magnificent way.
BUT (you knew it was coming), I also have perks with this movie I just can't seem to shake off. But first, I would like to mention that my review might be slightly biased by the fact I had JUST finished the novel when I saw it. Disclaimer aside, here are my thought on the movie.
Most of Austen's novel happens in dialogue. It's fast, it's captivating, it's intense, and it's a good insight into the characters' psychologies. Kudos to the script for trying to preserve this dynamic by adhering to the original dialogues, in most cases anyway. However, there is a downside to this tactic: it would be unrealistic to fit the WHOLE novel in a 2 hours movie without cutting any dialogues, and as the dialogues are maintained from the original, what ensues is a quick paste-up of main points from the storyline slapped one after the other in a not always so coherent way.
I suppose this is my main concern with the movie - I didn't feel drawn into it. I felt it was simply going zoom zoom this action, this sentence, whoops next scene, oh look, they are now together. I think that an adaptation rather than a rendition, and a concentration on the storyline and the romantic intrigue with some character psychological insight rather than on the dialogues, might have been more appropriate.
However, this being said, the actors were nonetheless wonderful (especially Keira Knightley as Lizzy Bennet), and the cinematography, as mentioned, marvellous. Definitely worth a second watch, at least. Perhaps I will change my opinion afterwards?
If you read and loved the book, give this movie a try and make your own opinion: not a waste of time, if maybe not the best adaptation of this classic novel. If you haven’t read the book, you might still enjoy it, but be prepared to concentrate on the storyline now and t
