Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
A bad week in a tough town.
A petty thief (Robert Downey Jr.) is brought to Los Angeles for an unlikely audition and finds himself in the middle of a murder investigation along with his high school dream girl (Michelle Monaghan) and a detective (Val Kilmer) who has been training him for his upcoming role.

This movie was hilarious and riveting at the same time. Robert Downey Jr played his part so well, it was ridiculous! Nice to see him in a role that isn't "super rich guy living off his interest" but as a slightly more /real/ person. The storyline was solid, it drags you in and doesn't let go. The ending was a bit weird, but the whole movie is weird, so it works!Heck of a lot of fun. - KeithTalent
Wow, what a fun movie. Some parts near the beginning had me worried that the film was trying to be a little too clever, but as things progressed it turned into a great little crime/comedy/romance/mystery/thriller type of thing. Robert Downey Jr. is, well, Robert Downey Jr. and it's perfect in the lead role and Val Kilmer made me wonder, yet again, why the guy is not in more movies that people actually see; he was really good in this. Good times, I would definitely watch this again.Shooting the Fourth Wall - ZetaC
This movie gains much of it's comedic punch and presence by inviting the viewer in through Robert Downey Jr.'s quixotic narration. In some way it tries to make you part of the inside joke it presents as going on. Most of the laughs for me were either in reaction to Downey's "stream of consciousness" non-sequiturs both as narrator and character or Val Kilmer's deadpan one liners. The plot gets a bit tortured, but to be fair, the opening monologue is a big signal that the film makers want to torture the plot. The swearing is gratuitous, something else the producers did on purpose as is the violence. In an interesting juxtaposition - the sex is not gratuitous - even the goth Christmas party is merely there to set the atmosphere of Hollyweird strangeness. Ultimately this film is a pleasure, albeit a really, really guilty one. It's only true sin - being almost too self-aware for it's own good. Few entertainers have ever been able to successfully pull off laughing at their own jokes and being impressed with their own performance. This film walks that razor's edge and doesn't come away without a bandage or two. Still I have to recommend it.
