The Last Frontier
A Rousing Tale of Adventure, Lust, and Madness!
Jed Cooper, a rustic backwoods trapper, is forced to work as an Army scout after losing a season's worth of furs to an Indian raid. He soon falls in love with Corinna Marston, the sophisticated wife of his commanding officer, Colonel Marston. Marston is an arrogant and foolhardy Army officer who had been sent out west as punishment for losing over a thousand of his own men during the Civil War. When Colonel Marston comes up with a plan to send his green recruits against seasoned Indian warriors, it's up to Jed to prevent another massacre.

The Last Frontier - monrepos
I saw this movie as a little boy and remember the theme song, "The Last Frontier" very well. In those days any movie was great. Today I found it a little slow at times and Victor Mature a little over the top especially where he acted as a drunk scout for the army, beats up one of the army guards, breaks into the Colonel's house and verbally molests the Colonel's wife. He is not punished for all this. The Indians look quite realistic to me (in the traditional sense), and the final battle between the army and the Indians is quite well done. Even the Fort looks realistic. You have to decide if Victor Mature is your idea of a frontiersman. I remember him best in the movie "The Robe"
Neverhteless, if you like the old west movies then this is one to see for nostalgia's sake.
