Bullitt
His new assignment seems routine: protecting a star witness for an important trial. But before the night is out, the witness lies dying and cool, no-nonsense Detective Frank Bullitt (Steve McQueen) won't rest until the shooters - and the kingpin pulling their strings - are nailed. From opening shot to closing shootout, Bullitt crackles with authenticity: San Francisco locations, crisp dialogue and to-the-letter police, hospital and morgue procedures. An Oscar® winner for Best Film Editing (1968), this razor-edged thriller features one of cinema history's most memorable car chases. Buckle up...and brace for unbeatable action.

Steve McQueen is the esscence of cool. This is your classic 60's cop movie but way over the top. Bullitt takes no prisoners here you could call him Dirty Harry's nemisis. But the pinnicle of the movie is the car chase and they really drove these beasts at speed and these were not the best handling car either but is is still awesomeA classic in so many ways... - Consumer1
The "modern era" movie of the cop who can't follow the rules. McQueen plays the role perfectly as he continually cheeses off his superior Robert Vaughn by doing things his way. It pretty much set the stage for the formula you've seen a million times since. Without keeping this in mind then you will and cannot appreciate it.
The car chase is still one of the top ones ever filmed. The chase, in it's entirety, from McQueen stalking his prey to when the tires start smoking to the climactic outcome has never been surpassed in my opinion. If you're idea of a great chase involves either Vin Diesel, drifting or Rice Rockets then you may as well go away... now... please.
And possibly the quietest hitmen ever. Not a word spoken.
And lets set this straight once and for all. Bud Elkins, McQueens friend and stunt double, performed the bulk of the stunt driving in Bullitt. He also did most of the bike stunts in The Great Escape for McQueen as well.Bullitt - Scooter_EDM
A classic Steve McQueen Movie! Back in the days of early movie making, this was one of the best car chase scenes ever along with the Mustang Mach 1 chase in Las Vegas in "James Bond: Diamonds Are Forever"! I always like to watch the scene when the bad guys put on their seat belts and prepare to take a ride to try and get away from Steve McQueen. Plus it was absolutely unheard of for an actor to do these car chase scenes himself, especially after James Dean. The movie itself is a great movie for it's era, but not up to today's special effects, but that is why it's so good because it's REAL! Steve McQueen shows his dare devil bravado in this as well as his motocycling escape in "The Great Escape" where he did his own riding as well. I love Steve McQueen's acting in a lot of his movies because it was basically him being the tough guy that he was back in the sixties. He was a lot like John Wayne in the roles he played and that is why his generation will always love that tough persona that he carried with him everywhere he went and in every movie he made. And unfortunately we lost him too young from all the smoking he did during his movie career like John Wayne!
