Admit it, you watch at least some of this classic film each Christmas on TV! The Sound of Music has is all - memorable, classic songs, great acting, and a happy ending. Young and old will enjoy this Academy Award winning film, and will hum the songs for a lifetime. The Finest Musical Film Ever - bwod
"The Sound Of Music" - (the Robert Wise film) is unquestionably the best version of this story that has been told in book form, by Maria Von Trappe, German film, Broadway stage production, and finally in this musical masterpiece, starring a very young Julie Andrews. The talent is first-rate, the screenplay totally engaging, and the location shooting and cinematography simply breath-taking. Not to be missed, is the bonus material on disc 2. Everything you need to know about the real history of Maria and her family is there, as well as some excellent documentary footage about the making of the movie. All together, the dvd set is worth seeing and owning, and I give it two big thumbs up!Classic, artistic and poignant drama at it's best! - AvidOscarBee
I remember seeing this movie for the very first time in England when I was 9 years old and it had a profound effect on me. Although I have now seen this movie countless times, it never grows tired or weary. I could be sad, depressed, angry or bored, and if I watch this movie or play the soundtrack, within 10 minutes, I'm happy and dancing. This, by far, is my favourite movie of all time. Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer as well as the Von Trapp children surely outdid themselves. The cinematography of Austria is breathtaking and I have yet to travel there. The singing is glorious as well as the family values and faith based philosophy makes this movie an instant classic. I can see why at it's original screening, that it broke all box office records and blew past Gone With The Wind, which was at the time, a blockbuster. This movie is artistic without being over-the-top. Funny, sensitive, meaningful, memorable and one can never grow tired of watching it. The performances by all is outstanding not to mention the director's ability to really tap into the talent of each cast member. If you've never seen it...give it a try at any time of the year, not just Christmas. It will surely warm your heart and leave you singing a tune or two. Enjoy!
