Tim Burton's Corpse Bride
There's been a grave misunderstanding.
Set in a 19th century European village, this stop-motion, animated feature follows the story of Victor (Johnny Depp), a young man who is whisked away to the underworld and wed to a mysterious Corpse Bride (Helena Bonham-Carter), while his real bride, Victoria (Emily Watson), waits bereft in the land of the living. Though life in the Land of the Dead proves to be a lot more colorful than his strict Victorian upbringing, Victor learns that there is nothing in this world, or the next, that can keep him away from his one true love. It's a tale of optimism, romance and a very lively afterlife, told in classic Tim Burton style.

First & foremost I enjoyed this tale even though it is a bit on the weird side. It's amazing what they did with stop animation and the Blu-ray transfer is well done. Dark and light are also characters in this story with the "underground" being on the light side. The musical numbers appealed to me. The 3 main characters were like real people who were transformed as the plot progressed. The ending was extremely satisfying.Delightfully Creepy - michaelpackard
Though somewhat predictable, Tim Burton's Corpse Bride is stunning (and somewhat creepy) to view, right down to the creatures living in the Corpse Bride's skull. I found myself originally pulling for Victor and Victoria, but as the movie progressed, the sorrowful tale of the Corpse Bride made her the character that earned my sympathy.Possibly Burton's Masterpiece - Thunderbuck
I'm a fan of animation AND Tim Burton, so you'd think I'd have fairly raced to the cineplex for this one when it was originally released, but with tepid box office, and an admittedly mixed record from the brilliant Burton (let's forget PLANET OF THE APES even happened, okay?), I took a pass on it...
And thus missed what might be Burton's best movie. This is a work of vision, delicacy, humor, and, yes, romance that works on many different levels.
First, it is technically brilliant. Gowns flow gracefully in the wind, bats fly in a frenzy, and inanimate figures become impossibly expressive. And (almost) none if it is computer-generated. This is a stop-action film to warm the heart of Ray Harryhausen himself, with some marvellous effects and some great craftsmanship. A great example of this is the way the builders devised a way to build expressive "muscles" into the faces of the major characters. I'd call that true to the spirit of stop-action, but still a clever innovation.
It helps that this is a charming story as well, with convincing characters. TOTALLY worth a view.
