Proof
The biggest risk in life is not taking one.
A devoted daughter (Gwyneth Paltrow) comes to terms with the death of her father (Anthony Hopkins), a brilliant mathematician whose genius was crippled by mental insanity - and is forced to face her own long-harbored fears and emotions. She adjusts to his death with the help of one of her father's former mathematical students (Jake Gyllenhaal), who searches through her father's notebooks in the hope of discovering a bit of his old brilliance. While coming to terms with the possibility that his genius, which she has inherited, may come at a painful price, her sister (Hope Davis) arrives to help settle their father's affairs.

While all the actors did a great job in this movie, the treatment of mental illness in this movie is not as engaging or as enrapturing as it was in A Beautiful Mind. In this one, the fact that the daughter fears following in her father's footsteps turns this human drama into a light tragedy... and I, for one, don't like that kind of movie.
Jake G. was cute as ever, though :)Excellent! - RavenSkies777
Proof is a simply fantastic film. The acting is superb, Anthony Hopkins in particular. The plot is original and unique from most movies.
This movie originally was a stage play that actually won a Pulitzer Prize! The film definitely upholds the high expectations.
I hope more people will discover this diamond in the rough and experience Proof.Human mind so great - Mary_Smith
This is a great movie! Probably, because the focus is not on mental instabilities of the father (Robert, played by AH), but rather on mental capabilities of the daughter (Catherine, played by GP). She is the one who pulls the strings in this movie, and gives the story its fabulous touch. It is amazing how human mind can be so great. Hal (JG) is a good character, but the movie would have proven great even without this character. Claire (HD) is a nice, shallow-minded character, whose presence brings up the great mind of her sister Catherine even more. The story is amazing, unpredictable and so real. It makes us think about our own contributions to this short life of ours. The scene I liked the most is when Catherine speaks with her father outside on the snow. Their whole life is there, in front of our eyes, and in that very moment, we understand how important they are to each other.
