A Guide For The Married Man
Director Gene Kelly demonstrates wonderful style and sophistication in this adult farce that stars Walter Matthau and Robert Morse as two husbands with one thing on their minds. Matthau is Paul Manning, a happily married "typical suburban male." Wanting other women but having no idea how to go about it, he turns to his friend, Ed (Morse), for a few tips on infidelity. And Ed willingly dishes up some of the funniest advice and anecdotes ever seen-brought to life by a top cast that includes Lucille Ball, Jack Benny, Joey Bishop, Sid Caesar, Art Carney, Phil Silvers and Jayne Mansfield. Despite its delicate subject matter, this wild, wicked comedy is executed with such charm and affection that it won strong critical praise and was one of the top moneymakers of its year.

This is a very funny movie about infidelity. Funny because of all the cameo vignettes that make up the bulk of this movie and funny because almost 40 years have gone by and white upper middle class wives no longer wait at the door with a drink for their husbands when they get home. LOL. SPOILER ALERT In the end the man (Matthau) stays true to his wife and all the philanderers get what's coming. A stupidly funny movie with lots of anthropological laughs.sexist - Pumon
Walter MAthau as a younger man? it is difficult to comprehend. This movie is a product of its times and may be a sexist. well I guess its a lot sexist. but it is a movie of its times but i found it interesting. Any water mathau fan should watch the acotr in his prime and not a grumpy old manOffensive? - Babs1
Keeping in mind when this movie was made and that pc was not the norm I still found this movie one of the most offensive films from that era. I have always had such admiration for Gene Kelly, but this, no matter when it was made, is an insult to the relationship between men and women. I get the joke (repeated ad nauseum) I just don't find it very funny or particularly well handled.
