Firestarter
Will she have the power to survive?
Andrew and Vicky McGee met while earning money as guinea pigs for an experiment at college. The experiment was shrouded in suspicion and mystery, and seemed to be related to psychic abilities. The two were married and had a daughter, Charlie, who has the ability to start fires by merely thinking about it. Naturally, the government takes a great interest in Charlie, and operatives from the secret department known as "The Shop" want to quarrantine and study her..

Oh to be able to start fires with my mind... - polkaroo79
I loved this movie when I was younger. I hadn't seeen it in years....but it was still just as good as I remembered it. Yes some may call it sheesy but back in it's day it was quite frightening. Drew does an excellent job with her part especially for being so young. I would definately recommend this movie for people who like the 80's horror genre. It's a must see.She Can Start Fires...With Her Mind! - FilmJunkie
She is a kid that can start fires with her mind! Show some respect.
I was obsessed with this movie as a kid, I really wanted to be Drew Barrymore. Her hair would fly back in the wind and you could feel the intensity in her eyes.
Years later, it just doesn't hold up, but I am going to grade it on my mix of my young reaction and my grown up perspective.
Thank goodness for Drew. Not bad for an 80s flick. - cathyottawa
As you probably know, this was based on the Stephen King bestseller.
Drew Barrymore is the young girl with the big powers in this story of Government experiments and cover-ups.
Typical of Stephen King, you get some pretty cliche characters here. The super nice, grandparent like farm couple. The bumbling FBI agents. The evil government guy who wants to exploit the girl's powers (played by Martin Sheen).
The surprising thing about this movie is the performance of George C. Scott, as a devious, evil, kinda crazy hitman. He's very creepy, and very convincing.
I also think the pyrotechnics were pretty good, even by today's standards.
Drew Barrymore is just as sweet as she can be, and was a pretty good child actress.
And look for a young Heather Locklear in a small role as Drew's mother.
