Duma
Some friendships are wilder than others.
Carroll Ballard (The Black Stallion, Fly Away Home) directs the exciting story of 12-year-old Xan (Alexander Michaletos), who decides to return the cheetah he raised from a cub to the wild instead of allowing pursuers to place it in captivity. Harsh South African landscapes, stalking lions, crocodiles, river rapids and a mysterious drifter (Eamonn Walker) who may intend to turn the big cat in for cash - all will test Xan's courage and resolve. Join him in this tale of growing up and letting go. It's a journey you won't want to miss.

Should be called dumb ass because of the kid in this one. I dont think this is a movie you want to show to the kiddies. Do you really want them believing they can hop on a motorcycle and head into the middle of nowhere with their pet and believe they can come home without a scratch on them, no sunburn, no malnourishmnet and no lack of thirst. I'll stick to Disney for the little kids.Cute - mxg123
Young cheetahs get separated from their mother after she was killed by lions. One of these cubs ends up on a desert road where he is picked up by a young man and his dying father. This young cheetah gets raised by his adopted family as a family member, and amazingly adapts itself to a domesticated family life. When the cheetah becomes an adult, and after the death of the rescuing young man dies, all decide that it is best to return Duma to the wild where he comes from. This gets the young man and Duma into all kinds of interesting adventures into the wild.Duma - GF--

This is a great film! Supposedly a children's movie, it is a great adult film as well. The story is about a boy and a cheetah and set against superb scenery in South Africa. It is a serious film that avoids any touch of Disney or the cute. Wonderful acting, especially a brilliant job by Eamonn Walker who plays an alternately charming and chilling black African drifter. Fine performances by everyone, including a briefer role played by the always-good Campbell Scott, the son of the fine of actor George C. Scott. This film is well worth watching even if you don't have any children to share it with.
