Warm Springs
The greatest challenge FDR faced was the one we never saw.
He was the only president to be re-elected three times, and is admired for his leadership during some of this nation’s most challenging times, most notably, World War II and the Great Depression. Despite these historic accomplishments, many Americans have never known of Franklin Roosevelt’s greatest achievement...until now. Starring Kenneth Branagh (Henry V; Hamlet; Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets), Cynthia Nixon (Sex and the City) and Kathy Bates (About Schmidt) this inspiring true story reveals one man’s secret quest for hope during his darkest days, in a place that would serve as a source of strength for him the rest of his life.

good performances - esp. by K.B. and was interesting that it told about a period of F.D.R.'s life that many people know little about. Its ironic, but for polio, he may have been a very average politician and president because of his sheltered and rich life! Also during his time in the white house, I don't believe anyone in the public could see him in a wheelchair and the lengths he went to hide this. After all, there wasn't t.v. and by speaking on the radio, his message could get through. Also his affairs were hidden by the media. This man couldn't be elected today - what a sad commentary on the present. Eleanor was a special woman, way ahead of her time and also his and was able to carve out a life of her own as time went by. Worth seeing if only to get some perspective on how things have changed and not for the better and I agree that the we get the politicians we deserve and sometimes the ones we really don't deserve which seems to be what is the reality today.A very good historical movie - imagination201
The actors are also excellent in their role of the legendary couple, but K.B especially shines in the role of the crippled politician who only had the dream of walking again someday. After seeing his fight for that, and then to help other victims of Polio, it is truly no wonder that he turned out to be amongst the greatest presidents of all times.
A very honorable piece of bibliography, and a good movie to boot!A Glowing story of a Great Man and Woman. - jmunds
I used to have a great dislike form Branagh, thinking he was a bit of a actor schmuck, with his over the top theatrics which while are great for the fluffy London theatre (I use the term fluffy, for the inherited realms of particularly Olivier) but have never played well on camera. But as I have come study Branagh, Ifindheisactuallyquite the actor. Every character he does is so rich and full of life, thereisspark therethatisnotpresent inmany actors today. In this film he brings all of that to the table. His performance is both heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time. It reminds me at times of Day Lewis in My Left Foot. Cynthia Nixon though kind of rough at the beginning really grows on the watcher as the film progresses, and by the end she is just as heartwarming as Branagh. The film it self is yes a tad sentimental, but this is a picture about great man, and to be honest thi film left me with a glow about politics and yearning to see a man like this retake office. I think this is a great watch to see just what it means to do a great film, with no agenda except to tell the story of a great man and woman.
