Mrs. Harris
Jean Harris (Annette Bening) was the refined headmistress of a prestigious boarding school and a mother of two. At a cocktail party she meets Dr. Herman Tarnower (Ben Kingsley), a confirmed bachelor, and the two begin a romance. After nearly fifteen years of being unable to break through the distant Tarnower's emotional defenses and put an end to his blatant infidelities, Jean's love for the doctor spirals into something much darker.
Be it premeditated murder, as the prosecution claimed, or an accidental killing of Tarnower while trying to commit suicide, as she swore, Jean Harris became an unlikely candidate to stand trial for murder in a case that became the media sensation of its time

A woman's obsession - Cricri7
This movie tells the story of Mrs Harris, a woman who went out for many years with the doctor who became famous at the end of the seventies for writing the Scarsdale diet. Their affair, that lasted for over 10 years, was dysfonctional. Herman was never able to commit to this woman and she stayed in the relationship even in spite of that. The story is pathetic when you see this woman staying even after all his infidelities. She was begging for him to keep her in spite of his having a serious relationship with another woman. He was a narcissist man who believed he could keep many women on a string but Mrs Harris reached a boiling point where she killed him because he had asked another woman to marry him.
It is an interesting story told without a big budget. It makes for an interesting movie. It is not the best movie made by HBO but with Ben Kingsley, and other fine actors, you can't help but watch the whole thing. He is one of the better actors I have ever seen on screen!Dull If Not For Bening - FilmJunkie
For some reason this TV movie was nominated for a ton of Emmys and Golden Globes. This movie is slow, dull and badly written. The best part of the film is a great performance by the eternally wonderful Annette Bening, and I have no idea how she pulls it off because the script and director and certainly giving her no help.
This is the story of the girlfriend of famed dietician Herman Tarnower (Ben Kingsley, smarmy and great) who shot him in cold blood while claiming that she only intended to kill herself.
Bening plays Jean Harris as the together and confident woman she surely was, but we are never really given a good idea of why such a woman would be attracted to the womanizing and chauvanistic Tarnower. Harris says again and again that she wants to be told where and when instead of asked, but for such a complex character as Jean Harris this seems a pathetic excuse that doesn't ever really work.
This movie is dull, but Bening gives it light.Mrs. Harris - cric
They are Two amazing actors Annette Bening(american beauty) and Ben Kingsley(Gandhi and Shindler's list), interesting true story. A bit long and weird at the beginning but then unfolds well. HBO does great films. I recommend "Mrs Harris". Great to also see the real Mrs Harris in the extra features.
