Mallrats
They're Not There To Shop. They're Not There To Work. They're Just There.
All new 10th Anniversary Extended Edition featuring 2 versions of the film: The Original 96 Minute Theatrical Version and an all new 123 Minute Extended Version!
When Brodie (Lee) is dumped by his girlfriend, Shannen Doherty, he retreats to the mall with his best friend T.S. (London), whose girlfriend has also left him. Between brooding and visits to the food court, the unmotivated twosome decide to win their girlfriends back with the help of the ultimate delinquents, Silent Bob (Kevin Smith) and Jay (Jason Mewes), whose continuing adventures take the word "nuisance" to a whole new level.
Please Note: The "Extended Version" of the film is only available with an English soundtrack. The "Theatrical Version" is available in English, French and Spanish.

Mallrats - Derekstar
My fourth Kevin Smith movie watching experience, and one of the better ones. I have been underwhelmed by Clerks, but this feels better. The acting is still bad, but not as bad. The dialogue still feels written rather than spoken, but slightly more organic. Slightly. I also found it significantly funnier, which is the most important part of all.I've Got a Soft Spot for the Rats - TheShamus
Mallrats is a movie directed by Kevin Smith (Clerks, Chasing Amy, Jersey Girl, etc.). This time around, the majority of the movie takes place in a mall. The script is completely "light weight" -- and it features some characters out of "Clerks" (most notably - Jay and Silent Bob).
To the casual movie goer, Mallrats will play like a waste of time. As a Kevin Smith fan, I was entertained by the movie for what it was -- an extended TV sitcom.
As always, there is some intelligent and funny dialogue. Conversely, there is a lot of stupid dialogue and antics (too much time is spend smelling "hands").
For fans, there is a great commentary track and some great extras which movie this DVD up to an overall three star status.
This movie is not for everyone --- the target audience is younger people (18 to 39). If you are outside of the window, it doesn't mean you will not enjoy the movie, but you have been warned.

For Kevin Smith fans, the true genius of this movie is the audio commentary featuring Smith, Jason Mewes, Ben Affleck, Scott Mosier and of course Jason Lee. The commentary track is absolutely hysterical and kept me laughing. They comment on how bad the movie did, they mock Smith's directing, Ben laments about not getting more screen time, they point out continuity errors, and they just laugh at themselves. I may never watch the movie's original audio track again!!
For you non-Kevin Smith fans, Mallrats is just a good teen comedy about hanging out in the mall while trying to figure out your lovelife, occasionally stopping to make witty observations.
