I love psychological thrillers, Inception, sixth sense, Old boy (i guess) shutter island. With its all-star cast i really thought STAY would have been a half decent thriller. Was I ever wrong. There was nothing that could have been done to salvage this movie. Granted there is a some sort of "explanation" at the end but it still does not explain several holes in the storyline. If you intend on zipping this or is already on your zip list...REMOVE IT. You have been warned!I wanted to go... - sickle
The movie started off making some sense, but then deteriorated into a drug induced state that leaves you feeling less than satisfied. My main complaint was that the first 98% of the film was from one person's viewpoint, and then at the end we find out it was really all from another character??? There were other explainations that could have worked just as well, but they lead you there then made a 90 degree turn in another direction. It was just a little too much.
And give the lead character pants that don't look like he's getting ready for a flood for god's sake (oddly enough I spent more time irritating about seeing his white socks, than I did trying to follow the red herrings they were throwing in)...It's not a thriller - ceegee
but it is a metaphysical mystery. The movie has a slow pace and builds to its conclusion which will be a twisty surprise for some viewers. Psychology students will eat up the stair and spiral metpahors with a spoon. I very much enjoyed the use of colour, painting and light in this film and would pair it with the much darker "In the Cut" for a similar colour-drenched experience. Since it is so slow and relies on repititious deja vu (is that a pun?) for eerie effects, I spent a lot of time wondering why Ewan McGregor was wearing pants that were four inches too short for him instead of about what was happening in the film.
