As a bunch of FF Fans ... we could hardly wait to see if the graphics were even close to the games.
Very, very well done and well scripted to boot. I think we watched it a total of 3 or 4 times before we actually sent it back.
Can't wait to see the other FF's we have on our ziplist although our membership may not last long enough for that to happen.New FF7 movie adds little except CG action - Kushana
FF7 was originally a PS1 RPG game. It featured, as most FF games do, emo teenagers battling ancient evil for the fate of the world. While FF7 was an excellent game in many respects, the storyline wasn't one of them; it was confused, incoherent, incomplete, in many places non-sensical, and suffered from a lot of deus ex machina.
Advent Children is a movie written as a sequel to the game. While it does gain some credibility by half-explaining the motivation of the FF7 antagonist Sephiroth, it's still largely incoherent, introducing new characters and repurposing old ones for what passes as a plot, making irrelevant references to FF7 game mechanics such as materia and summoning, and bringing back our cherished game allies only to abuse them when they cater to the hero's sulky narcissism.
The rest of the movie is chase scenes and exaggerated manga combat, nicely rendered. Not bad if it were a game... - ericpl
I have to admit that I REALLY wanted to like this movie. I recall with great fondness playing FF7 and wanted to enjoy the sequel. I didn't really...
Sure, the graphics are lovely (and would have made for a stunning PS3 commercial if they were rendered live) and the effects are off the chart - but it left me cold and really not sure what these whiney little people were going on about.
I loved it visually, though - watch it with the sound turned off or in Japanese with English sub-titles, you'll really enjoy it far more...
