It has many problems, but has some redeeming qualities - HelexraAscianti
The acting is good. The characters often lack chemistry and the script has them doing things that make little sense, but they do it very convincingly. Colin Cunningham makes an appearance, he is quite a talented actor so it should come as no surprise he pulls off his role well.
The problem is not the acting, or the budget, but the plot. Despite having three scriptwriters work on this movie, it makes absolutely no sense. Yes, I know it is a comic book adaptation, but comic books have plots, and character development, and progressions of defined storylines. The plot, what plot there is is about as cookie-cutter as you can get. Eternal battle for good and evil, chosen one needs to pick a side and tip the balance to one or the other.
There are more holes in the movie than swiss cheese. You can tell when they occur DURING the movie, no need to wait until it ends to spot them.
The special effects are quite well done. Rarely did I get sucked out of the movie going "there is a CGI shot", it happened once, but not many times. Fortunately as it is based on a comic-book character, the CGI did not need to be hyper-realistic, but simply good enough not to have the classic "CGI moment" where you can tell it was built in a computer.
Spoilers now.
There is a fight scene which is filled with flying sheets for no reason at all. It looks cool, but it served no purpose beyond making the movie cost more to make in the CG studio. You can also tell it was built in a computer in some shots, so it sucks you out of the movie.
One characters entire purpose is devoted to showing off how good the computer graphics are.
One character was apparently 'the treasure' (aka: chosen one), but her turning evil did not tip the balance toward that of evil.
One character apparently has a history with Elektra, but is never explained what it is beyond "we must finish this"
The director was lazy when he shot the fight scenes. Or lazy in the edit rSurprised and entertained! - Choloepus
I will admit that I heard so much bad press about this movie that I was not expecting much. I was genuinely surprised and actually quite entertained by this movie!
Sure...it isn't Spiderman or the latest Batman...but I was quite entrigue by this hero. She has a dark side and quite an attitude. I loved the action sequences and the vilains were very cool. The only downside for me was the blind mentor. Not great acting here and made me think of what you would get if David Carradine ever joined the A-Team.
I recommend you set yourself up for disapointment, sit back, relax and watch this film. I bet that it will entertain you more than you think!
Enjoy,

It's not often such a jaw-droppingly pointless big budget movie comes along. Even when all else fails -- and it does; there is no theme, no character development, no story arc, no writing -- one can usually see at least the underlying concept and identify with that. But there isn't even an identifiable idea here, and that's saying everything when the story is based on a comic book character. Elektra doesn't even have the luxury of starting with a good concept and going bad after that. It just never gets going.
I'm a big fan of exactly this kind of escapism, and Terence Stamp is always a pleasure to watch, but Elektra is about as well done as a frozen turkey. There's more drama in my VISA statement.
Film students should compare this vapidity to Batman Begins, say, or any given episode of the new Battlestar Galactica series.
