Great movie. Interesting from the get go and throughout. Totally reminded me of my early 20's in university...truly speaks of that experience of when you are young, in univ, around others, experiencing life...Great movie, and extremely entertaining. Very cool characters.Adventures in Spain - GFHunter
This French/Spanish production is a lot of fun. Earnest young Xavier goes to Barcelona to learn Spanish which will set him up in a job within the French bureaucracy.
His original arrangements about accommodation, made by his mother, just don’t work out so he has to seek alternative arrangements. After a short stay with a young doctor he met on the plane and his beautiful but neglected wife he finds a flat with a group of French, Italian, Spanish, German, English, Norwegian and Belgian students.
Xavier learns so much more than Spanish.
This is a delightful film about life, love and what is important in life. I give it a good 4 stars.L'Auberge Espagnole - C'est Vrai - MacAskill
This much-praised film is an interesting collage of performances and personalities. Definitely not a plot driven movie; indeed, only the slightest of plots. But rich on university-aged students and their emerging lives. It's very much a cross-section of people who's lives are just beginning and their loves and frustrations and infatuations and foolishness. The performances are uniformly first-class, but Audrey Tautou - who it seems is presented as the central figure - is, in fact, peripheral to the central characters and action. She is delightfully different from other performances, but a young actor named Romain Duris is clearly the focus. It's well worth seeing for the wonderful ensemble, but be prepared to let yourself relax with it and let it unfold. It takes its time going where it's going, but the trip is very charming and frequently involving. Having said that, none of the characters is without flaws nor irresistable. Pretty much like real life. As the title implies, the movie is what you are willing to lend to it, just as with the characters' lives.
