Classic Oater - McGuffin
Lean, laconic, ex-sheriff (Scott) with a clouded history seeks vigilante vengeance on the seven bad guys responsible for his wife's death (why are Western heroes usually so well-tailored vs. scruffy villains?). There are marauding Indians, ruthless US cavalry, a bewhiskered old-timer, a one-horse town in the middle of nowhere, and Lee Marvin leering at the pretty "little woman" of an ineffective tenderfoot salesman (but she has a hankering after the hero). Cliched, but satisfactory character-acting by all, beautiful vistas, and satisfying shoot-em-ups make it above average. An awesome classic Western. - B00B00
Seven men from now is a western with real substance and packs all the elements needed to entertain. Everything is brought together well including the town scenes, the wagon train, the deserts and sand dunes. Lee Marvin and Randolph Scott bring this movie to life. All western fans need to see this classic western because it's beautifully directed and acted. I find it amazing how Budd Boetticher brings the story together in less than 80 minutes. This Stands Alone Amongst His 7 - TaBobo
This has to be Budd's greatest western of the 7 he made with Scott, if not the best motion picture of his career. It takes all the qualities he put into Comanche Station, Ride Lonesome and the Tall T and then adds a darker element, one Budd didn't often delve into, but does with mastery here.
The restoration of this picture is remarkable. In Budd's own words "at first I didn't recognize it as what I made, it looked so good. Everything was so vibrant."
Certainly had this film been allowed to see a broader audience when it was made, Marvin would have recieved the acclaim he deserved, giving one of his greatest performances.
Now if only we can get Budd's other films (westerns and all) onto disc and restored as well as this one.
This is the greatest western I've ever seen and would recommend it to all.
