Blood & Wine
Stealing a fortune is easy. Getting away with it is murder.
For wine dealer Alex Gates (Jack Nicholson) it hasn't been a vintage year - his business is on the rocks as is his marriage to Suzanne (Judy Davis). His stepson, Jason (Stephen Dorff), hates him, and his mistress, Gabrielle (Jennifer Lopez), is asking for a commitment. In desperation, Alex conspires with his safecracker buddy, Victor (Michael Caine), to steal a million dollar diamond necklace from a wealthy client.

Wonderful actors - shame about the film! - rdees
Who can resist the always wonderful Judy Davis? the compelling pathos of Michael Caine? the creepy charm of Jack Nicholson? – Despite such a wonderful cast, this film really does disappoint. Whether it’s the plot, the writing, the direction, the music, none of the qualities or the component parts in this film manage to save it from its own mediocrity. The equivalent of a forgettable weekend television film, the key cast members that do what they can with so little from the script and the director, and then there’s some flat acting from auxiliary cast members (Jennifer Lopez, Stephen Dorff) to contend with. You’ll make it through to the end, but then you might just wonder what happened to your evening.Good acting with a hint of suspence - AvidOscarBee
Every once in a while a film comes along that pleasantly surprises you and this is one of them. I had absolutely no expections other than knowing that good performance would be expected by Jack Nicholson and Michael Caine. The chemistry between these two and their banter was engaging. Judy Davis also did a good job playing the jilted wife. I was taken aback by the performances of Stephen Dorff and Jennifer Lopez as I didn't really expect much from them. As for Ms. Lopez, it just goes to show you that when you achieve fame in Hollywood they do everything possible to change your image, strip you of your ethnicity and the like. With the exception of her bottom, she is almost unrecognizable and the Latina accent was comical. In any event, a twist and turn plot will keep you guessing until the end. Good acting, a hint of suspence but entertaining.
*Judy Davis
*Great Cast, good intrigue - johnn_b
Everybody shines in this one. In my opinion, Rafelson's movies tend to be a bit flawed, less than perfect. I think it's intentional. This movie is highly reccommended. Jack Nicholson and Michael Caine are great together, Jennifer Lopez is interesting, Judy Davis has a great scene, Stephen Dorff is intense. It's all good. The dvd extras feature some great extended interview clips; Nicholson, Rafelson and Caine are very interesting. Caine and Nicholson are such complete opposites that it's fun to watch them both act and talk in the interview sections. An enjoyable experience all the way around.
