I didn't think I would like this flick but I was pleasantly surprised. The cinematography was spectacular and the story engrossing. A good romance for couples who want to escape the trials and tribulation of life for awhile.
It does get a little cheesy at the end but what the hell it's a love story of sorts.Amazing Performances - bbryon1
Amazing performances, great soundtrack, exquisitely detailed costumes, a well done adaption of Arthur Golden's best seller. It is breathtaking. I adored the book and loved the movie. Ziyi Zhang made Sayuri come to life. I highly recommend this film to fans of the book, geishas, Asian culture, and of course romantics. It is one of the most beautiful films ever made. I appreciated this film entirely. Sayuri's dance scene literally gave me chills.Well done, good acting - Survivor
The storyline was told both in first person narration by the main protagonist and also through being immersed in the storyline as though still in the present. A very effective way to present the "Memoirs". The story told about a culture very different from North American culture, one that had flaws in it with respect to human rights, especially females, but also one that shows elegance and respect towards proper form. The movie very successfully showed how a Japanese woman could think highly of this "career" while at the same time mourning their loss of freedom. The ending few lines by the protagonist, again in first person narration, are a perfect wrap to the end of the story.
