A comic story about the annual holiday gathering of a New England family, the Stones. The eldest son brings his girlfriend home to meet his parents, brothers and sisters. The bohemian Stones greet their visitor - a high-powered, controlling New Yorker - with a mix of awkwardness, confusion and hostility. Before the holiday is over, relationships will unravel while new ones are formed, secrets will be revealed, and the family Stone will come together through its extraordinary capacity for love.

An uptight corporate executive visits her boyfriend's quirky family in colonial New England and runs into a case of culture shockThis is such a wonderful movie Diane Keaton is brilliant the all star cast also makes this movie worth watching SJP, Rachel McAdams, Claire Danes & Luke Wilson. You can watch it any time of the year even though it is set during christmas.Good acting, good ending..but boring a bit - skylar22
I liked all the actors and their roles in this movie. Love seeing Rachel McAdams in anything. I wasn't as annoyed by Sarah Jessica Parker as I thought I would be. More annoyed by her bf character. I also don't get how he falls so in love with her sister so fast, no development there. A bit weird. The ending was good but could use a bit of humor throughout so it wasn't boring in parts.not as bad as they say - huma
having read some of the reviews for this movie i was expecting a terrible evening. but i was pleasantly surprised. while the plot is a little disjointed, there are some surprisingly good performances (sarah jessica parker and craig t. nelson in particular shine). a solid ensemble film, the script could've used a little fine tuning. not a must see by any measure, but not a must miss either.
