The Dark Corner
Save your lipstick, girls, he plays for keeps.
Private investigator Bradford Galt has moved to New York from San Fransisco after serving a jail term on account of his lawyer partner Tony Jardine. When he finds someone is tailing and possibly trying to kill him, Galt believes Jardine is behind it. As he finds there is rather more to it, he is increasingly glad to have his attractive new secretary Kathleen around - for several reasons.

Enjoyable film noir - Lina
If you like film noir, you'll enjoy this one. It's set in New York City, with some actual on-location footage from the era. Lucille Ball has a good role as a woman with a bit of grit and intelligence, as opposed to her later airhead role. The DVD also has an interesting commentary by 2 film historians.Reasonably interesting - MovieLover
This is a reasonably interesting movie.
Nothing to write home about but a decent enough story---and intriguing because of a straight role for Lucille Ball.
One wonders if it was her only straight role? The commentary states that she didn't like the movie at all; the director was tyrannical; and she had a breakdown in the middle of the movie.
However, I can't make out why she hated the movie; it's not that bad; maybe because it was a B-grade movie and she saw herself as a star. She is quite ok in it.
Clifton Webb is a disappointment though. I have fond memories of him in Three Coins In A Fountain. But here he is too mannered, too artificial; it's a performance, nothing seems natural about it; and frankly it spoils the movie for me.
Bad direction indeed for the movie's one class actor.
