The Thing About My Folks
Sometimes the fruit falls very far from the tree.
Sam Klein (Peter Falk), a retired businessman, is at a loss when his wife of 40 years walks out on him. While his daughters try to track down their mother (Olympia Dukakis), son Ben (Paul Reiser) takes Sam along with him on a road trip. Family secrets are uncovered as the two men from very different generations learn more about each other and have more fun than either imagined.

No it's not a comedy. It's a sweet sentimental 'travels with my Dad' movie. I think the subject matter is something most of us can relate to - learning to see our parents as adults and understanding what they have through in their lives as peers rather than children. It's Reiser and Falk's movie with only little character disclosure about the sisters, wife and kids. It does go down a usual route at the end but I forgive the movie for this predictable yet realistic end.The Thing About My Folks - TheLockeBox
I enjoyed this film. Paul Reiser carried out his typical humor as in 'Mad about You' with his one liners that I enjoy. The way family interactions play out reminds us what's important in life is family and relationships.
There is not a lot of acton in this film but it is entertaining. If you've missed Paul Reiser! - gidge
If you've missed Paul Reiser since his Mad About You Days and enjoy his type of humour you will enjoy this surprising frank journey. Peter Falk shines as the father that spent his life working and "thinking" everything was fine and it's just a pleasure to watch these two travel across country finding their relationship and their way again. Olympia Dukakis doesn't get much air time but what she has she shines in and I don't think this cast could've been better put together. Anyone who liked Paul Reiser's way of doing things in Mad About You will enjoy this film, I for one have missed him and hope there is more to come!
