Devil Dog
Hound of Hell
The Barry family get themselves a new puppy and he's just as cure as a button. But the maid isn't so sure. She's convinced the little dickens is possessed by the devil. The truth is, she may be right! Lots of unusual and eerie events occur and no one in the family (not Kim Richards or Ike Eisenmann) is safe. It's up to Dad (Richard Crenna, First Blood) to save his family's souls from the demonic clutches of the Devil Dog, the hound from hell! This surprising 1978 made-for-TV movie is now available restored on DVD for the first time. Directed by Curtis Harrington (The Killing Kind, Who Slew Auntie Roo?).

There were some great made-for-TV horror films in the 1970's, but every once in a while something like this would come along. Flat, slow, and completly ridiculas, it's a wonder it ever got made. Still, it has all that horrible 70's camp that has surely won it a small following of fans. And the DVD gets bumped up to a 2-star rating (rather than a 1 star) for the unintentionaly hilarious interview with director Curtis Harrington who lets it be known that he is quite possibly the most embarrased film-maker of all time because of this (it's an audio interview where he won't even show his face). The other interviews, however, feature a cast who took the whole thing much, much too seriously.
