This movie was about a New York girl who came to Nashville to become a singer/songwriter. She met two boys--one nice and in love with her and one not so nice that treated her poorly. She went out with the nice guy briefly only to drop him as soon as the bad boy showed her some attention. This story was exactly as I expected with no twists. In my opinion, it was fine but not great. We need more Mathis! - 2eblue
Obviously it's a real shame that River's career ended decades too soon but we should also be saddened that we don't see more of Mathis. She was wonderful as Miranda. Sandra Bullock is great as the quirky sidekick. And Dermot Mulroney is brilliant as the sad puppy love struck friend. A great ensemble cast and the music is pretty good too. Especially the funny tunes sung during the audition scenes. The plot is predictable but still it's a fun ride. The chemistry between Pheonix and Mathis is sad knowing what happens not too long after the movie but plays wonderfully on the screen. A very good movie.OK movie - cowellj
Young Miranda Presley, an aspiring Country-singer/writer, comes to Nashville, Tennessee, to enter the weekly singer contest held at "The Bluebird Cafe". There she meets James Wright, an energetic, but somewhat chaotic young man, Kyle Davidson, a more laid-back kind of guy and Linda Lue Linden, who's career may not necessarily be in Country... When both James and Kyle get attracted to Miranda, she makes a decision.
